Why it works: Drawing salve is the old pantry fix for a splinter you can't grip or a stubborn surface bump. Activated charcoal and clay are believed to pull debris toward the surface as the salve sits overnight.

Ingredients

Steps

  1. Melt the coconut oil and beeswax together gently until just liquid.

  2. Take it off the heat and stir in the charcoal and clay with a non-metal spoon (metal weakens the clay).

  3. Add a few drops of water to make a spreadable paste, then pour into a small tin to set.

  4. Dab a little on the spot, cover with a bandage, and leave it overnight. Repeat until the splinter surfaces.

Kitchen noteThis is for minor surface splinters only. A deep puncture, anything near the eye, or signs of spreading infection like redness, heat, or fever needs a doctor, not a salve. Charcoal stains fabric, so cover it well.
